In the aftermath of Trump surviving an assassination attempt, many professional opinion-havers are now talking about the scourge of "political violence" that has overtaken, or will soon overtake America, and how we must not let chaos rule. This is, of course, patently absurd. The American government and its allies have been the greatest force of political violence on the planet since the beginning of colonialism, and the foundations of the country are made of corpses. Today, America commits political violence by forcing Ukrainians into the maw of Russian artillery instead of trying to reach a peaceful settlement, which Russia has repeatedly expressed interest in and offered Ukraine relatively favourable terms. They supply Israel with endless weaponry to destroy entire cities and populations, while Biden supporters insist that somehow things could be worse than daily massacres and mass starvation.

In May 1945, French police fired on protestors, causing retaliatory attacks on French settlers, killing about a hundred. In response, the French murdered 45,000 Algerians in a little under two months, in a frenzy of political violence called the Sétif and Guelma massacre. As the massacre was being completed, the International Court of Justice was established. It goes without saying that Algeria never benefited from the ICJ, and the War of Independence from 1954 to 1962 was made inevitable. Over a million Algerians were killed before France could bear the fighting no longer and gave up, and Algeria won itself a state. Comparisons to the ongoing war of independence and genocide in Palestine are obvious.

While the means of colonial violence have evolved over the centuries, the basic structure of it has not. As in Algeria, Vietnam, and Cuba, resistance groups in and around Palestine are fighting for a world with less political violence. The American government would drown every city in the developing world in blood to prevent peace.

The COTW (Country of the Week) label is designed to spur discussion and debate about a specific country every week in order to help the community gain greater understanding of the domestic situation of often-understudied nations. If you've wanted to talk about the country or share your experiences, but have never found a relevant place to do so, now is your chance! However, don't worry - this is still a general news megathread where you can post about ongoing events from any country.

The Country of the Week is Algeria! Feel free to chime in with books, essays, longform articles, even stories and anecdotes or rants. More detail here.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Imagine if Biden becomes starting point of second pandemic. What is worse than having covid? Knowing it was originated from a genocidal brain dead

What really matters is what Putin and Bibi think of all this, how does this change or not change their calculations?

In light of Ursula Von Der Leyen (wack name lmao) being reelected as president of the European Commission, I went digging into her past to see where in the family tree are the Nazis.

From her grandfather's wiki page:

Albrecht belonged to a family of wealthy cotton merchants; his father was the cotton merchant Carl Albrecht (1875–1952) and his mother was the American-born Mary Ladson Robertson (1883–1960), who belonged to a prominent planter family from South Carolina. His father was a grandson of Baron Ludwig Knoop, one of the leading industrialists of the Russian Empire in his lifetime.[2]

Based on my knowledge of every rich European being a Nazi, it's very strange that there's absolutely no mention of the war. soviet-hmm

Also, isn't it just perfect that the highest ranking EU official is descended from slavers?

Not gonna lie, part of me wanted him to stay in so we could continue to harp on "Genocide Joe" and say "I told you so" when he inevitably lost against Trump.

The other part of me does recognize that the real problem isn't a single person but rather the entire system. It just sucks that all the crimes against humanity committed under Biden's genocidal regime will be forgotten by many people due to a different puppet steering the ship.

Yeah copmala losing is not gonna be as funny as joe sadness

If they just took him off the ballot, made a fake White House, and told him he was the president, would he even notice? Just build one of those communities for people with Alzheimers that functions like a little village that they have in the Netherlands, except it's the White House.

But, I thought Biden was the only one capable of defeating Trump and anyone who disagreed was a secret Republican who wanted Trump to win?

Well, don't worry, Biden supporters. I've taken your arguments to heart, and you can rest assured that I'll write in Biden this fall, no matter who the Democrats decide to run. It's the only way to defeat Trump.

Let's talk macro for a little bit: with the JD Vance pick (and assuming the Democrats can't fix their campaign), are we not seeing the balance of power in DC shift from New York & finance to San Francisco & tech?

That shift in power lends far more credence to reindustrialization and a change in the US Treasury than anything else. A weak dollar is far less important to the Silicon Valley elite than it is to the New York elite. Is it unreasonable to expect a weakening dollar emerge over the next four years, bringing with it a rise in onshoring, a rise in real incomes (which are overwhelmingly from domestic consumption), and a fall in purchasing power abroad?

AOC and Bernie clearly have fantastic instincts

[–] john_browns_beard@hexbear.net 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm even more confident than I was previously that the Democrats force Biden out of the race before the convention. It would be a terrible look for everyone to "gang up on him" and force him out through a contested election. They're going to have his family sit him down with some ice cream and convince him he needs to drop out.

There will be tearful stories and a lot of sympathy pandering all the way up until November.

Just saw some post on reddit saying stuff like this:

"You do not have the privilege of getting the exact person you want in office. Accept this fact, and help us get CLOSER to where we CAN, because I can guarantee you we won’t get what we want under Trump."

Whoever the Democratic party pick as their presidential nominee, you HAVE to vote for. If it’s Joe Biden, you HAVE to vote for him. if it’s someone else, good, but you have to vote for them!!!

If we split the democratic voter base, we will lose 2024 like we lost 2016 when we joked about Hillary, and thus we WILL be killing many American women, trans, gays people!!!

Even if Biden gets nominated, elected, and is then deemed unfit to hold office, Kamala will take over

Think not about what could happen if Biden gets reelected, think about what will happen if Trump is allowed to take control of the country. People will be killed, and it will be your fault if you helped make it happen.

???

All these billionaires lining up behind Trump is amazing. They want an American Caesar so badly. They need him to wage global war.

Al Jazeera It's Joever coverage

We also have the first reaction from Moscow.

“The elections are still four months away, and that is a long period of time in which a lot can change,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“We need to be patient and carefully monitor what happens. The priority for us is the special military operation,” he added, referring to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Peskov noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had characterised Biden as a predictable candidate, who Russia would have preferred.

Biden was the Russian candidate all along! putin-wink

[–] Commiejones@hexbear.net 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

President Vladimir Putin had characterised Biden as a predictable candidate, who Russia would have preferred

This is just a good lie. It stokes Trumps ego so that when Trump wins he thinks he can pull one over on Putin when they negotiate the end to the war.

Meanwhile predictable is a sick burn, All biden can do is issue sanctions, send weapons, eat ice cream and lie.

Anyone who watches chud spaces: have they made up a conspiracy tying Trump's assassin to Biden somehow? I want to read some funnies.

From what I have seen; They found a similar dude on some Blackrock school AD. So now they are saying this 20 year old guy was trained and brainwashed by blackrock and The Jews™ to kill the second coming of Jesus, also known as Donald Trump, because he donated to the democrats when he was 17.

It doesn’t matter much but Biden and RFK Jr are tied in Utah polls. And that was before the debate.

It would be hilarious if Biden comes in third in a state.

[–] edge@hexbear.net 0 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

He should honestly just drop off the ballot in Utah and see if Kennedy wins it and fucks with the electoral college totals. Like it might strategically be better for him.

Hell if he dropped from a bunch of the solid red states it could put Trump in a bad position contending with Kennedy. I don’t see any reason he shouldn’t. Kennedy’s polling puts him just a couple points behind Trump in a head to head in states like Oklahoma and Arkansas, although ofc it’s biased. Even if Kennedy doesn’t win any, if Trump has to play defense in solid red states, that takes resources from his campaign in the Rust Belt.

Here’s how Biden can still win.

[–] newmou@hexbear.net 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Man the optics of Biden dropping out of any state races though…damn that would be a hard hit lol

Thoughts on Heritage foundation Project 2025? All the wrong people I hate (annoying, terminally online lib commentators) are hysterical, they said Trump gonna shut down NOAA, EPA, become dictator and ends democracy. Is it UN Agenda 21 (Hobbit homes, eat bugs) panic for Blue MAGA, or fascists telling us exactly what they are gonna do?

IOF goons vandalizing Palestinian homes with their "art":
https://xcancel.com/ireallyhateyou/status/1813300580196245721

🧵"After a long time in Gaza, in Khan Younis... it started to get really boring. As an artist, it was natural for me to take a marker and just start drawing on the walls."

In last April Shomrim, "The Center for Media and Democracy", that does so-called investigative journalism, collaborated with popular mainstream news outlet Mako/N12 to do an article about the different graffiti writings and paintings left by Israeli soldiers on the walls of homes in the Gaza Strip.

It wasn't a critical piece, but sort of a feel-good patriotic piece, or as the writer called it, "an authentic glimpse into the state of mind of IDF soldiers active on the front".

The only (very subtle) critique in the article is regarding how little graffiti relates to the hostages, the potential damage to Israel's image in the world, and the use of soldiers as tools for spreading political messages (because as every Israeli "knows" - the army is "above politics").

The most nauseating part was the story of a soldier named Ram, whose quote is at the beginning of this tweet, and his so-called "artwork" (a wall defaced at the home of displaced or murdered Palestinians) is attached to this tweet.

In the following tweets are a few excerpts from the article regarding this artistic soul taking part in a genocide.

[–] Leper_Messiah@hexbear.net 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Here's hoping the next wall he defaces will be with his brains

This isn’t news, but I hope you’ll indulge me for a moment; I’m dropping a comment here because I’m currently reading Socialism Betrayed by Roger Keeran and Thomas Kenny. It’s really, really good and I wanted to mention it here because I think it’s the sort of book that is right up the News Mega-heads’ alley.

The book is about the collapse of the USSR. It focuses on Gorbachev’s actions after 1986 but links it to other, longer term phenomenon. Like, for example, the development of the underground, private economy and how that created a petite bourgeois “5th column” inside the USSR. I haven’t finished it but so far it’s jam packed with excellent info and analysis.

And if anyone here has read it, I’d love to know if you have any critiques of it.
