Is Newbury pronounced:

  • (2 syllables) New•brie; or,
  • (3 syllables) New•b'uh•ree

I really need to know, and Wikipedia says nothing!

I think it depends on your accent, and through that how old you are.

After saying it a few times outloud, for me NewBrie is close, but it's kinda a mix of the two.
This is, I'm sure, very helpful. My accent seems to wander a lot depending on who I'm talking too!
Southampton when I'm not there. Saaffamtn when I am.

I thought New-brie... but then on the train in, the automated announcements enunciated hard and squeezed out the extra syllable.

tbf I reckon either is completely fine unless you're overenunciating "New-Berry" :-)

With my “from London but moved to Devon but moved to Reading” accent it’s NewBrie.
