As a former couch of a children's soccer team that lost every single game by almost double digits, fuck children's sports. There are no more recreational "fun" leagues because has-beens/never-beens are overly competitive through their children. I had a team where a quarter of my players were out with injuries in a single half because the other team was so aggressive and hurting them on purpose.

Yeah, but what's a couch going to know about sports?

Can't you red card the bullies?

My oldest daughter did competitive horseback riding for a couple of years when she was younger. We live in the Bible belt so of course someone would say a prayer at the beginning of each competition, like with any sports event. But, one time the announcer said something that stuck with me. "Lord, help us to have fun and remember that the judgements passed today are just this one man's opinion this one time."

I thought it was a good perspective. People who suck the fun out of kids sports just... Suck.

Dunno man. We do travel soccer and it’s fun. Soccer is a physical sport and some grit is needed to be successful as you get older. Making sports less competitive is bogus.

I did coach baseball with my other kid for 11 seasons and it’s the same thing there. Participation trophies are killing sports and making it acceptable that it’s okay not to try and succeed. To me it’s a huge disservice to the kids.

Competitive sports isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. There’s plenty of other hobbies out there for kids to get involved in.

There's a huge difference between encouraging your kid to be competitive and give it their all, vs. encouraging your kid to be violent and hurt players on the other team to satisfy some weird desire to win at all costs though. The comment you replied to was talking about the latter.
