Yeah I don’t feel like making yet another account for yet another service I don’t want. Just gonna request a refund and uninstall.

You don't need to make a Sony account. You can skip that. Unless they just changed something...

Edit - I just saw another post confirming this. What the hell.

This sucks, cause Arrowhead is gonna catch some unneeded flak for it, but it's almost purely a Sony plot for data, and Arrowhead and the players are the ones who lose.

I bought Sony Bluetooth earbuds recently, out of the box they wouldn't connect. You have to download an app, and agree to their EULA which is essentially "Were gonna steal data about everything you listen to" before you can connect to them via Bluetooth. Returned them the same day. Fuck Sony.

The WF-1000XM5s? I bought those a couple months ago and I feel like I was gaslit by all the tech reviewers saying they were the best.

Admittedly, they sound amazing, but they have so many technical issues that they're barely worth using. Connection issues constantly, noise cancelling popping in and out, they turn on and connect when they're in the case in my pocket, it takes 40 minutes to update them, if it even works at all, and the app is SO BAD!

I feel like I was bamboozled into paying a premium for bad earbuds.

They were the WF-500's. I have a high end pair of Bose earbuds for music, but for audiobooks at work I just wanted something decent. What really got me to return them is I couldn't use them single ear and have controls. Bought some Monster brand Chinese earbuds for dirt cheap, it's my third pair from this brand and for the most part I get a good 18 months out of them before they have connection issues or the battery doesn't last.

I’ve had none of those issues, nor the one described above with Sony earbuds. They’re the fastest connecting, least often disconnecting earbuds I’ve ever had. What device are you connecting them to? Could at least explain some of the connections issues you’re having if it doesn’t support the newer codecs it prefers.

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Pixel 8 pro, so yes, it supports everything. And the issues I've had are ones people have been complaining about for a long time. There are numerous reddit threads about them.

Don't have these issues with any other devices.

[–] Bartsbigbugbag@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 months ago

Interesting. I have intimate knowledge of pixel devices, having been a Google certified technician and having gone beyond that to do component level diagnosis and repair. I can say, they are probably the worst put together phones on the market. They basically just cram as much shit in them as they can and hope it works. They don’t advertise it, but every single one has had major, serious issues. In fact, we were expressly forbidden from telling customers about known issues, and had to offer “one time exceptions” for all sorts of issues. So all that to say, I’m not surprised to hear about those issues on a pixel device. They’re not good devices. Even a $79 Samsung has better build quality and internal design. Android Bluetooth stack is notoriously terrible also, have you tried them with non-android devices, like a console, PC, Linux phone or iPhone to see if they persist?

Well, at least I no longer have to waffle about whether I want to buy the game or not. This makes it an easy no.

[–] Jordans_Vision@lemm.ee 10 points 6 months ago

I've been playing for a few months now. Really sucks they're forcing it on us.

[–] Alk@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

It wasn't the kernel level anti cheat from a lesser known company being required to play that made it a hard no?

[–] Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 months ago

AFAIK, it runs at user level on Linux - still kinda SUS

[–] Aphelion@lemm.ee 22 points 6 months ago

My whole game broke yesterday right when Arrowhead made the announcement, because it turns out they pushed a micro update to Steam players that includes a .DLL that is identified as malware by most 3rd part antivirus.

So, sadly, after 350 hours of fun, Helldivers is staying uninstalled until Arrowhead reverses course on this Sony bullshit.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 8 points 6 months ago

This is the only meme format used on LinkedIn, but they really like it.

[–] tiberius@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 months ago

Is this grace period typical of big publishers? What other games have this weird grace period for publisher accounts?

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

This doesn’t make sense, they get more data from Valve/you even having the game installed than they do for having an account you only use in 1 game

Worried about the email?

I wonder if Sony is considering making an offer to buy arrowhead and wants the engagement data before doing this.

I know there was a definite rumor that they were already acquired which was false but I think that this idea may be in the cards.

They probably do not want Microsoft getting it

[–] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

If Microsoft wanted it, they could so easily out-bid Sony. MS is on another level when it comes to disposable money and revenue. And I'm sure MS has their eyes on Helldivers because of its success.

So it'd be in Sony's best interest to acquire the studio as quickly as they can.
