With Web 2.0 circling the drain specifically because of the financialisation of everything, crypto demons co-opting the term Web 3.0 to describe the intensification of that financialisation has been profane. Just pure Mammon shit. I like that Lemmy is a genuine alternative path for social media. It's rediscovering all the good things about Web 1.0 and combining it with the networking of Web 2.0, minus any of the latter's gamification or enshittification. The dream of the 1990s internet and fighting the enclosure of the digital commons are both achievable with projects like this.

I love not seeing adds everywhere for everything but it needs some form of monetisation
