Israel conducted a strike in Iran early Friday morning local time, a senior U.S. official told Axios.

Israel, which has not confirmed it launched an attack, has vowed to retaliate against Iran for a missile and drone attack on Israel. The U.S. is concerned that continued counterattacks could trigger wider regional escalation.

  • An aide to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined to comment.
  • The U.S. official said Israel notified the U.S. in advance. "We were not surprised," the official said.
  • The Biden administration has warned Israel that escalation with Iran wouldn't serve U.S. or Israeli interests and urged Israel to "be careful" with any retaliation, U.S. officials said.

Fars news agency, which is affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported explosions were heard in the city of Isfahan in central Iran near an Iranian air force base.

  • Iranian state TV reported several drones were shot down by air defenses in Isfahan.
  • Iran issued a notification early Friday morning local time closing the air space over western parts of the country.
  • Iranian state news agency IRNA reports Iranian air defense systems were activated tonight in several places in the country.

The US earlier approved of an invasion of Rafah in exchange for "israel" not striking Iran.

Aside from how genocidal that is on its own, looks like the colony has figured the US won't stop backing it no matter what it does.

Yeah I was confused going straight from that report to this news.

For all the carnage that's happened and all the carnage that's about to happen, we need to (rhetorically) beat the neoliberals over the head for the 2020 primary. I don't know if Bernie could have stopped any of this, but at least our hands would be clean. Fuck the notion that neoliberals are somehow "good enough". They throw us a bone from time to time, but ultimately the only thing they are capable of generating in the long term is absolute disaster.

vote the the current SOB back into office (only to avoid the clusterfuck that is trump), then impeach the MFer for war crimes.

Not gonna happen. Bidens numbers have tanked, it will be the lowest voter turnout in history most likely

Yeah the votes just do not exist.

We should try something else.

house progressives should announce it now. everyone seems to want a circus - this should be a humdinger and bring all the kids to the yard!

with the hard-on Republicans have had for "evening the impeachment score" it might be the last time we get a positive, country affirming majority house consensus.

LOL, like Congress isn't complicit. The Republicans are fully behind Israel starting WW3 to bring Jesus back, and Democrats are split, but will never impeach Biden over it.

I have no idea what to do about Biden, but an impeachment over this is a fantasy. The 2020 primary was our shot, and we blew it. The Biden presidency will be what it will be, but we can't let Democratic voters forget their failure. Neoliberalism will end, or it will end us. It might already have done so, but time will tell.

I hear you, my friend - and I agree... 2020 was likely the last play for sanity we had.

in my fantasy, I still imagine both of these bastards (trump and biden) in adjacent cells.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The same cell might be even better.

Cage match?

Hmm. Wonder who his vice will be round 2. Has he announced yet?

[–] qprimed@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

not yet, as far as I know, but I would really surprised if its not harris. she seems to be down for the disaster.

I'm almost certain that Harris was the establishment's first choice in 2020, but the only time she generated any support at all was when she went after Biden for racist bussing policy. They couldn't throw it to her, so they picked Biden and gave her the VP spot. I honestly doubt Biden has a whole lot of say in the matter. It was probably part of the deal when they had the rest of the establishment candidates abruptly drop out and endorse Biden. I don't think the establishment has given up on Harris yet.

[–] stewie3128@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I still suspect that they had Klobuchar picked for VP until George Floyd happened.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 3 points 8 months ago

She was certainly on the "acceptable" list. Then Biden turned around and called for increased police funding. They are clowns.

The U.S. official said Israel notified the U.S. in advance. “We were not surprised,” the official said.

I thought they were at least gonna continue pretending they don't want a regional escalation?

Iran warns Israel, US of ‘severe response’ in case of retaliation

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 13 points 8 months ago

But it won't be called an escalation this time because its Israel

[–] PanArab@lemmy.ml 12 points 8 months ago

Iran has a right to defend itself
