Will we see another ultra-consistent performance from Verstappen? Will Alonso finally get his 33rd? Will Lewis in the new Mercedes claim a victory, 16 years after his maiden win?

How will Ferrari bungle the strategy this weekend?

Another McLaren double points finish surely isn't too much to ask for, right?

Right?

[–] shedinja@feddit.it 5 points 1 year ago

I just hope to see a good midfield battle between AM, Ferrari and Mercedes, since I can’t really see anything except a Max win on Sunday. He is just on another level.

Are we guaranteed to go on this weekend with the situation in Canada right now?

[–] Ecksell@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago

Not necessarily guaranteed, but the officials have assured us fans that the wildfires will not have impact significant enough to endanger folks nor cancel the race outright as of this time.

[–] frankdew@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The forecast is rain all week so I don't think it will be a problem.

[–] Naryn@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh so cancelled from flooding it is

[–] frankdew@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

LOL... some people just want to watch the world ~~burn~~ drown

[–] t0fr@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

Wind isn't blowing south at the moment. So the skies are pretty clear in Montreal. Even when New York was super yellow, Montreal was relatively fine as most of the smoke went around Montreal. Plus the rain that we've been getting I'd helping out a lot.

I'm looking forward to seeing Merc Vs Aston, trouble is Aston only really has 1 car lol

[–] ZappySnap@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Max will win unless his car breaks. Still, things behind him have been getting more interesting this year, so let’s hope for more of that.

Is it too much to ask for a Ferrari win?

[–] Cmmndrkn@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

As a Ferrari fan, yes.

[–] Omgarm@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.

[–] einderjam@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 points 1 year ago

Depends on the Motorsport category you are watching

[–] Rob@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ll put my money on another Verstappen win. I hope Perez can get his act together.

[–] avapa@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Verstappen seems damn near unstoppable at the moment. RB got a fantastic car and his raw skill is incredible. Would like to get some sort of an upset, though. Having the same guy win every time gets kind of boring. Felt the same with Hamilton a couple of years back :/

[–] bernieecclestoned@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

At least Hamilton Rosberg was interesting as they were at a more similar level than Bottas or Checo

[–] SouthernCross@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'd love to see Yuki score some points this weekend. Let's go!

[–] randromeda@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I need to see Aston Martin unveil the most illegal, protest-inducing, send-Newey-into-a-coma upgrades and for it to rain so my boy Lance can get that maiden win.

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I have to say, I've really turned around on Stroll this year. Seeing him drive with mangled hands and wrists early on was pretty heartening, and seeing him improve has been neat - fingers crossed the green bull comes through for him 🤞

[–] evanuggetpi@lemmy.nz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm hoping to see clear skies 😬

[–] DreadPilotGagarin 1 points 1 year ago

This. Most I can hope for is the race doesn't get canned.

[–] Tagger@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Anyone got a weather forecast?

[–] t0fr@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Atm, rain Friday thru Sunday

[–] Tagger@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yay, fun rain or so there will be no race at all rain.

[–] t0fr@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

It says 1mm for now, so that sounds like fun rain to me!

[–] tauonite@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

After Aston's bad weekend in Spain, I'm hoping they can bounce back with an Alonso podium. Mercedes's performance looked promising in Spain, I think it'll be a fight between Hamilton and Alonso for the final podium place behind Verstappen and Pérez.

[–] larryellison@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

We expect more surprises on Sunday geometry dash bloodbath

[–] Freyr@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe VER ALO PER? Would be great to see alonso score a couple of good points

[–] c0mpufreak@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

VER PER ALO is inevitable.

Charles will have a good start to the weekend, decent Q1 and Q2 and then his engine will blow up in Q3. You heard it here first :D

[–] CoolBeance@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'm still rooting very hard for Mercedes. If Canada works out very well again, I think it will set a very different tone for the rest of the season

[–] gangstamouse@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I just want Leclerc to have a good race goddamn

[–] MoreIronOre@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ferrari won the 24h of Le Mans. It is only logical to assume we're due for a big Ferrari fuck up.

[–] Fluffysquash@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Used up all their strategy last weekend. They really should learn how to budget

[–] einderjam@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 points 1 year ago

At this point, a weekend where everything goes along smoothly (him, his race engineer, pit stops and strategy) would look like a victory

[–] raulmedez@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At this point I'm just hoping for rain so that Max can at least be challenged by someone

[–] dark_shines11@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But Max is ridiculous in the rain. I don't think that would be enough. I'm not sure anything can stop him at this point.

Williams 1-2, verstappen dnf, Charles leclerc now leads in points. Mercedes are running the reverse layout playing mario kart.

[–] bruzie@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago

I'm just looking for excitement. It's very telling that the "Top 5 Battles of Canada" on the F1 YT channel includes three three-way battles, whereas the "Top 5 Battles of Spain" had a "battle" from qualifying.

As a Lewis fan, this isn't what I want to see, but it's hard to begrudge Max fans enjoying how well he's driving.
