TLDR:

He said the criticisms have "some merits" and then never explained what he thinks woke means.

TLDR:

Most of the article is about completely different things with a small section where he says "Yeah, I guess we're a little woke, but mostly we just want to entertain people".

The whole "woke" buzzword thing is just dumb. It's just the latest bigotry dogwhistle / Fox "News" Pavlovian Response Training, where chuds are trained to react with visceral disgust at any word.

They made the chuds flip about WelFaRe QuEeN, HilLaRy, bEnGaZi, SoCiaLiSM and LIbRuLS and now WoKe. Fox could train these people to hate the word TURNIP.

I think there's a lot more nuance to it than that especially when we're talking about the products of a multi-billion dollar multinational corporation. There's definitely a lot of pandering happening where these companies slap a facade of inclusivity onto a product even when they don't really care either way whether marginalized people have a voice or not. These companies do it because of image and profit not because it makes sense or is the right thing to do.

There is certainly a giant crowd on the right that represent exactly what you're speaking about, but just because they're the bad guys doesn't make Bob Iger or Disney the good guys, nor does it mean there isn't some truth to what's being said.

There's a new show out from Zach Woods and Mike Judge called "In The Know" that does a great job of satirizing this very concept.

Calling wokeness a buzzword is like calling pornography a buzzword. People may struggle to define it, and definitions vary a lot, but everyone knows it when they see it.

That its hard to pin down is 1) why we’re even discussing this here, and 2) why the Republockans keep using it as a cudgel.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

With the Nelson Peltz proxy fight in the rearview mirror, Disney CEO Bob Iger says that he is now free to focus on moving the company forward, with succession being a top priority.

In a wide-ranging interview with CNBC Thursday morning, Iger said that in meeting with shareholders over the last few months, succession was a key issue, and he sought to reassure the Street that he was focused on the problem.

He also addressed the proxy fight, with Faber pressing him on whether Peltz’s crusade was a personal one given the backing of former Marvel chairman Ike Perlmutter.

I’ve been preaching this for a long time at the company before I left and since I came back then our number one goal is to entertain,” Iger added.

They need to be entertaining, and where the Disney company can have a positive impact on the world whether it’s you know, fostering acceptance and understanding of people of all different types, great.

And with regard to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the settlement over the Disney World oversight board, Iger described the deal as a “win-win.”
