General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

I know he's a big flaming twat and shouldn't get any attention at all but absolute LOL at these comments.

FUCK HIM UP! HUURRRRR! HIT HIM IN THE FACE!

Jesus titty fucking Christ what has happened to people? ๐Ÿ˜…

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Politician says 'I will commit state violence against an entire demographic.'

People say 'I hope someone else mildly inconveniences that specific public figure.'

Which of these sentiments is more bloodthirsty?

[โ€“] mannycalavera -4 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Nice strawman.

My point is that people seem quite happy to condone violence because they don't like the victim. Are you able to comment on that?

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

'You just don't LIKE it' is dismissive horseshit and you need to stop.

We are talking about fascists.

There are very specific reasons people are okay with these bastards catching projectiles to the face.

[โ€“] mannycalavera -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What you're advocating is violence towards anyone that you don't like. That isn't what a just society should condone.

Fascist or not, they need to be defeated by words and the law not by fists and violence. What do you think is the end logic of what you're saying? When the actually fascist elements of society start doing the same thing as you're advocating and start to assault people they disagree with?

I'm not sure why this is controversial but yet it appears that it is. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

"YOU JUST DON'T LIKE IT!" remains dismissive horseshit, and you need to fucking listen.

You're pushing a slippery-slope fallacy... against stopping Nazis. Fuck right off with it.

These assholes are already doing violence. That's what makes them Nazis. That's why we're talking about more than coming together to sing kum-ba-yah. They don't "disagree" with people. They're dehumanizing anyone who was born wrong. Do you understand the difference?

[โ€“] mannycalavera 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

?

Are you sure you understand who Nigel Farage is? Or what has actually happened? You seem to be raging at something that is not what I'm saying at all.

My point is that you shouldn't resort to violence when they disagree with people. Defeat them with words not stones or milkshakes.

Can I ask if you understand this?

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Repeatedly explaining how this goes beyond "disagree" and "like" hasn't helped, so far. Would a third time be different?

Do you even have a consistent position vis-a-vis milkshakes to the face?

[โ€“] mannycalavera 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Do you even have a consistent position vis-a-vis milkshakes to the face?

I've just said that in the comment you replied to ๐Ÿคฃ. Is this really hard for you to grasp? Or are you doing a really good job at trolling me?

Repeatedly explaining how this goes beyond "disagree" and "like" hasn't helped, so far

I genuinely have no idea what this means. ๐Ÿซ

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, mixed up a conversation with someone more reasonable. You've been consistent in saying that hitting Nazis is bad, somehow. Because you think the only reason is 'you don't like Nazis.' Nah mate. It's because Nazis want to commit dehumanizing violence against everyone like me. And a bunch of people who aren't like me. And they're not really particular about people like them.

If you insist on seeing that the same way you'd see children bickering over a toy, fuck off. This isn't about disagreement. This is about basic human dignity and a society safe for people who aren't fucking Nazis.

[โ€“] mannycalavera 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

There's a simple principle here that you shouldn't commit acts of violence against people that have different views to you. Read what I have said again and try to comprehend this. That isn't about Nazis or Farage or anyone else. It's a principle. The way you're replying suggests you don't understand what a principle is and you don't have any.

It's also really weird that you've jumped straight to the "but he's a Nazi" trope. Straight away. I'm not going to defend what Farage has said because he talks a lot of absolute shite but by no stretch of the imagination is he an actual Nazi. Are you able to point to when he's committed genocide? Can you show me where he's put people in concentration camps? Do you have evidence that gassed millions of innocent people? Shit... do you have evidence he's gassed a single person?

Again (because you seem to blanket ignore what I am saying) I do not agree with Farage or what he stands for, but I'm not about to go and assault him over it. It sounds like you're very comfortable in assaulting someone because you disagree / don't like / assume they're literally Nazis.

I'm sorry, but that's an awful way to live your life.

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

DiFfErEnT ViEwS! Broken record.

This is not about "like."

This is not about "disagreement."

This is not about civil fucking differences.

This is about active threats to millions of people, in the form of public demands for state violence. A modicum of backlash in response to that will never justify your schoolyard tutting.

Do you understand the actual Nazis were marching around doing low-key acts of terrorism for decades before they committed genocide? That shit was the precursor... to genocide. If you don't recognize fascism until it's gassing people, that is entirely too late.

[โ€“] mannycalavera -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Ok buddy, you seem very angry. I'm going to step away now. You take it easy ๐Ÿซถ.

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Could there be reasons? Nooo, surely not. It's just like / angry / disagreement, no possible way those are justifiable reactions to fascist rhetoric.

Apparently Hitler was completely fine until about 1942. All the stuff before that was just different views.

[โ€“] mannycalavera -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Please stop, you're just embarrassing yourself now. You just sound unhinged.

Go outdoors and enjoy life. ๐Ÿงก

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

You picked gas chambers as the point where things go bad. You. Like you cannot imagine Farage being a fascist, until he, personally, has committed genocide.

It speaks to a cartoon understanding of the actual Nazis and the danger they posed in the decade leading up to the Holocaust. They didn't start from genocide. But they were laying the groundwork for it, all the while, and what that looked like is what we are seeing now.

Shrugging when that kind of asshole suffers petty assault does is not morally interchangeable with punching someone who disagrees with my favorite color.

[โ€“] mannycalavera -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

favorite color.

Ahh it all makes sense now. The anger, the vitriol, the strawman, the aggressive push for violence. Extremely well trolled, young sir. For a second I honestly thought you were genuine.

Congratulations on the trolling and all the best for your next victim. ๐Ÿ’›

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

... I am describing how you treat this condemnation. You jackass.

YOU are the one reducing everything to "you just don't like it." As if these bastards' dehumanization of everyone like me amounts to nothing more than childlike disagreement over mere preference.

[โ€“] mannycalavera -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That's nice, troll. It's good that you have a hobby.

Stay safe whatever you doโฃ๏ธ. Remember people are nice if you just talk to them instead of being angry.

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Bigots will not be nice to you no matter how gently you treat them.

You will never understand this conversation until you acknowledge that.

[โ€“] mannycalavera -1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I hope you find mental peace ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ. Take care now ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’•.

[โ€“] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What you're doing is trolling. You are baiting a reaction and projecting motivation. Be better next time.
