Don't they also have to fucking volunteer for combat roles?? I swear I've heard talk about how in general yes there is forced conscription however most just end up in logistics and stuff like that.
That’s essentially true of almost all militaries in the sense that only really ~25% of units are combat units in that they specifically train to close with and fight the enemy. The other 75% are logistics with some basic combat training if ever needed, but in comparison to dedicated fighting units it’s pretty lackluster.
Needs of the Army trump your volunteer chosen MOS.
You can enlist as a Cook, go to Cook school, get through it, get to your first unit, and get orders to send you to Expert Infantry school.
