generically speaking yes i might encourage you to find a way to insult people without trivializing the experiences and loss of those suffering from the disease and their loved ones.

in the specific case where it is a descriptive metaphor and not an insult, e.g. “multiplies like cancer,” that’s probably fine. but if you’re using it as an insult, i for one will not come to your defense.

But I'm not sure how it trivializes it. Using it as an indicator of a bad thing is meant to indicate how much that thing sucks. You're calling things cancer because how much cancer sucks

by all means continue to defend your right to an assholic behavior to those who have politely informed you how that behavior is hurtful
