I personally think there was an extremely vocal portion of the fanbase that made that a way bigger deal than it actually was.

I think what you are talking about is the Aqua X Ruby incest supporters. It was a thing for a couple chapters after they both figured out who they were in their past lives. In the latest chapters, Aqua has come to terms with the fact that he actually has feelings for somebody else. He is not the doctor that he was in his past life, and he doesn't feel that way about Ruby after living with her as brother and sister up to this point. We don't yet have a lot of insight into Ruby's thought process, so it is quite possible that she is still crushing over Aqua because she loved her doctor in her past life.I think the main thing that drove this portion of the fanbase into overdrive was that Aqua and Ruby have a kiss scene in the movie they are shooting together. However, they are both professionals at the end of the day.
