Not really an accident, but a childhood friend of mine died from a spinal meningitis infection in less than a day.

We were in cub scouts together. My mom got a call in the morning from a friend of his parents telling her to say a prayer because he had just been taken to a children's hospital with severe head and neck pain.

That night my mom got another call from her saying that he had passed. Roughly 12 hours and the infection took him, an otherwise healthy kid. Totally out of the blue.

That was the first time I experienced a person I was close to die.
