The way I pick fruit compared to my husband is vastly different. I pick it up, put it in a bag. That will do. He carefully selects a piece, examines it, caresses it, talks to it before carefully lowering the chosen piece into a bag. I am a very patient wife.

My father used to pick up a watermelon, hold it up to his ear and tap it. Apparently this told him if it was ripe.
