Even with a household of two, the standard 70/30 (fridge's favor) is not sufficient for buying frozen bulk. At the same time, vertical freezers aren't the most energy efficient, because the heavy cold air comes out when you open the door.
The best solution I've found is a dedicated fridge, and a chest freezer! Ideal ratio for me is around 60/40 in favor of the freezer, but unfortunately our current place is too small for a decent sized chest freezer.
I literally fantasize about having enough space in my home for a chest freezer.

God, I'd love a chest freezer. Definitely no space for one though. Maybe someday though :)
