Haas is embarrassingly bad right now. This is the exact same set of problems they had in the last Gen of cars. They’ve clearly got something fundamentally wrong in their processes that causes this

Part of me says they're just making a mockery of the sport and should be pushed off the grid, but then who'd replace them, if anyone?

[–] BURN@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They’re still a lot better than plenty of teams in the past. We’re spoiled now by 20 consistent teams. In the earlier days of F1 anyone could show up and there’d be “Pre-Qualifying” to eliminate the cars that were so slow to be dangerous to the competitors.

They’re funded, show up, and occasionally grab some points. That’s about all you can ask from a backmarker

But imho it's bad for the sport that there are teams that can barely pretend they're contending for points.

There always has and always will be backmarkers. There’s teams in all sorts of sports championships that barely ever win.

Only half of the cars get points. That pretty much means there is always going to be teams that won’t be challenging.

...fair enough.

I think Gene just doesn't give a fuck about F1. It's just a self-sustaining advertising opportunity to him and nothing more and so there is no impetus from the top to sort out what is clearly a dysfunctional team even accounting for budget constraints.

It’s a massive advertisement for him. Can’t really blame him for that.

Haas machinery sales have grown a ton outside of the US since he started the team.
