It's kind of weird that he didn't go home though, considering he made a completely wrong dish. They made an exception for him, which is fine, but he objectively failed to make biscuits and gravy.

That's not how they make their decisions, though. They consider a few factors, and whether or not you made the right dish is only one of them.
