UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

An infinite number, since 'reversing pledges' is not the criteria by which we decide whether someone's a Tory.
So when they reverse so many pledges they're effectively campaigning on being "Competent Tories" that's ok with you?
I see why you support Labour now. You're a Tory.
Good point! Thanks for convincing me to vote Conservative. I was going to vote Labour, because I'm a Tory, but you've now convinced me that makes no sense. I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before.
No need to be snippy Frank. I said competent Tories. They're still competent, but they are Tories. As long as we're clear on that and that we'll probably never have a genuine change of direction for generations even as the gap between rich and poor gets to the point of revolution.
I wanted a real Labour party that had more left wing ideas, not something that will happen in my lifetime.
That makes me a tad bitter.
I also would like Labour to be more leftwing, but unless a plurality of people in the country want that, it can't and shouldn't happen. The very second you say 'I'm leftwing' (or, indeed, 'I'm rightwing' or any other such label), you're also by definition saying 'Most people disagree with me'. But that's fine! Decent, intelligent people disagree all the time. There's no particular reason to think that you and I are correct to be leftwing. The whole point of democratic politics is to find a way to get millions of people who disagree with each other on roughly the same page.
As I've said before, Labour are going to implement leftwing politics in power (again: green investment; planning reform; workers' rights). We have the status quo, with no leftwing policies, or an opportunity to get some left wing policies. It is obvious that we should take that opportunity and vote Labour.
I'm a cynical git and you've given me some much-needed hope. I like you Frank; you're a good egg. 👍
I'm going to assume it was the sarcasm that tipped you over the edge.
By the way, feel free to keep tagging me in comments. I'm always happy to explain what I think!
