They know, and a full rewrite, including optimization and UI overhaul is in progress. It's been taking almost a year at ths point.

So excited for material you NewPipe! I think they wanted to finish some features like comments on comments first though.
I know I heard back when it was announced it might fix some issues like the crashes slowness and ui being bad but there's other issues with newpipe that are just due to their philosophy and aren't ever going to change
