An Android app for Meta's federated Twitter competitor was accidentally leaked, and people are already datamining it for clues.

The update at the end about the data the app mines is presented as a "why would they want all this telemetry and info about all the things their users do?"

Like, fuck me, have we not been aware that our data is their actual product for ages now? It's a really braindead article, with major both-sides vibes.

Interesting feedback. I definitely wasn't trying to "both-sides" coverage of Meta's entry into the network, the bit at the end was more of an incredulous "WTF?!" because asking for telemetry like Health Data sounds like a lot, even for a microblogging app made by Meta.

Oh shit. Didn't mean to dunk on you pal. I will however stand by what I said.

The bit at the end I feel would present your "WTF?!" aimed tone by changing it from "why would they need this" to something like "this is egregious even for meta". Or even just tacking it on the end.

I'm very anti-Meta, so the both-sides vibes I got might stem from unbiased reporting. shrugs

You're good, man! Honestly, though it felt a bit harsh, it was good feedback. Anyway, I went ahead and updated the end of the article to be a bit less ambiguous.

It's about fuck-off o'clock in the morning here, and I haven't had my full morning allotment of caffeine, it's easy to forget we're all (or mostly, barring the bot army) humans on the other end of the screen.

While I will stand by what I said, I shouldn't have been a dick about it. And for that I do sincerely apologise.
