A great question, porn/sexuality is a great deal for many users (me, included) and Reddit tried to make them go away or at least hide them; I have no idea why is it not allowed in so many Lemmy instances (if not all of them) but I hope that changes in the not so far future, otherwise we're going to be missing one of the biggest reasons people use Reddit and might not move to a Lemmy instance.

It's not allowed in a lot of instances because the moderation is absolutely exhausting and sometimes NSFL material.

The only limiting factor here is admins + moderators of an instance willing to put themselves through that.

I have no idea what kind of person wants to do that sort of thing, but they do exist.

Perhaps we should send PMs to all the porn subreddit mods and ask them if they'd be interested in moderating a porn reddit on lemmy?

I'd be curious to know which porn subreddits are scheduled to go dark on the 12th. Are there any reddit porn connoisseurs here that can do that research and let us know which subreddits mods might be upset at reddit and interested in migrating here?

So we need two lists:

  1. List of porn subreddits with upset mods
  2. List of lemmy instances that would be down to host some porn communities

Somebody on reddit had a massively huge list of every sub that's going dark, both sfw and nsfw. I can't find it right now though :/

Good. There are lists of NSFW subreddits so you can find the intersect between the two lists, or you could use the GNU utility curl to query each of the subreddits on old.reddit.com/r/<insert_subreddit_name>, use grep to isolate responses that redirected to https://old.reddit.com/over18?dest=https%3A%2F%2Fold.reddit.com%2Fr%2F<insert_subreddit_name> and then the sed command to extract subreddit names only.

Edit: Did just that; see my other comment or Reddit mirror for results

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to charge you $20 million for that curl on the reddit site :P

If you go to r/ListOfSubreddits there's a pinned thread with a REALLY LONG list of NSFW subs, going asking or checking all of them is something that would require time... like, a LOT of time.
For the instances that would be down... I'd really doubt there is one right now, at least the ones I checked just seemed to subscribe to the no NSFW rule.

Nsfw is enabled, but their rules often say no porn

[โ€“] iorale@lemmy.fmhy.ml 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well now I'm confused, that list says some instances allow NSFW but when you check their instance rules it says they don't

There's a difference between "not safe for work" (posts which may involve nudity, drug use, or violence, among other subjects) and outright pornography.
