If only speaking from personal experience, many games nowadays have an almost implicit requirement to search up a "before I play" guide or a "beginner recommendations". If nothing else, many people want to Google "missables", to ensure that they can fully experience a game.

What is your recommended game that requires nothing but the player to be in the moment and enjoy the experience?

I have a few.

  • Doom 2
  • MyHouse.WAD (which I consider completely separate from Doom 2 in this sort of discussion.)
  • Dr. Langoskov, the Tiger, and the Terribly Cursed Emerald
  • Curse of Monkey Island, original trilogy
  • Strong Bad's Cool Games for Attractive People (and pirates now that you can't download it legal-wise no more, but I repeat myself)
  • Galaga
  • Hotline Miami
  • Helltaker
  • Terraria (Googling is allowed after the first six hours)

With MyHouse.wad

Its something you should play the first time without spoilers, >!getting the ending with the burned house that gets sold!<

but the second time you really probably should have at least some kind of guide >!because the order of areas to get everything to get the best ending with the beach is pretty specific and easy to mess up!<
