I think for me it has to be games that have a well thought out beginning like Sable or Children of the Light but just dont have an ending.

Sometimes the excuse to "reset" the characters can be silly, like how Samus loses her powers at every single Metroid game, lol Hard to remind situations were a "reset" is well written, it just happens out of convenience

Horizon Forbidden West has a weak reason why Aloy starts with her best armor nerfed and her weapons all gone. And it starts basically immediately post the game 1 ending.
