So I went and checked. That thing retails for €1100 around here. And I don't know about you guys, but when I buy a phone that costs that kinda money I expect a solid piece of hardware. Not something where the manufacturer decided to skimp out of rigidity because they were being cheap. Not because of some aesthetic choice, no this is just cheap.

And they expect these things to last 7 years? Yeah right.

One of the possibilities I semi-unironically expressed was that Google is willing to promise 8 years of software updates because judging by their track record, there won't be any Pixel 8s left alive after year 5, which means there won't be any customers to complain when they break that promise.

Given Google's track record they'll just cancel the pixel line and say no more updates after year 2

You just triggered memories of the Nexus 5. Loved that phone. But alas Google stopped supporting it after like 2.5 years.

That was my all time favourite phone

Ditto. So light and easy to handle.

Unfortunately the power button gave up as well.

I still use mine as an OBD2 display! Luckily the app is old as the hills too, idk if I'd be able to get the play store working right.
