I know this topic has been discussed many times in the past. I really wanted to give an iPhone a try coming from an Android, but the navigation on the phone seems to be a huge downgrade.

The back button is in most applications out of reach with one hand. And swiping on the right edge is not user friendly for a right hander.

On android you can do that from both sides and it makes the overall experience much smoother!

Will apple ever catch up with android?

I have both iPhone and Android phones, because I'm mobile app developer. My primary phone is the iPhone. Android only for testing apps, and rarely use. I find navigation on iOS way better. I think this is maybe a habit. I'm using iPhone as my primary phone since iPhone 4. All that years I own Android too, and never considered making the Android phone my primary use device.
