I know this topic has been discussed many times in the past. I really wanted to give an iPhone a try coming from an Android, but the navigation on the phone seems to be a huge downgrade.

The back button is in most applications out of reach with one hand. And swiping on the right edge is not user friendly for a right hander.

On android you can do that from both sides and it makes the overall experience much smoother!

Will apple ever catch up with android?

Apple does not support this gesture in its apps either. Example: if you go to your profile from the App Store (top right icon) then you can't go back comfortably from the bottom, you have to go up with your finger to the top of the screen.
