Asking for one for Christmas, what model isn’t “too old” at this point but still affordable? (alien.top)

Hi, I’m a 30F who never really spends on myself at all and I’ve never had any gadgets besides my phone ever. My Mamaw is asking for a big gift idea and she spends up to $400. I thought now was the time to get an Apple Watch I’ve always wanted! I’d like to go with an older model that is MUCH more affordable (maybe like the $200 range?) but I know Apple starts messing up their older products. So any advice on a model to go with that will be reliable for several more years yet not break the bank, a sweet spot so to say? I don’t need anything super fancy just one that does the job, thanks!

My partner is still using a 3 so don’t worry about older ones being “messed up”
