Hey all,
I just got an Apple 4K TV and set everything up. The picture’s great. The remote works perfectly in controlling the Apple TV itself. But I can’t get the remote to control my TV (power and volume). My TV is a Hisense H65N5300UK.
What I’ve tried so far:
-
Tried the Auto, HDMI and TV via IR default settings in the remote settings
-
Tried the ‘learn new device’. The progress bars fill up and I can save it. But it still doesn’t work
-
Updated my Apple TV to the latest software and turned it off/on at the mains
-
Reset the Apple TV remote (using menu + volume down button combo)
-
Updated my TVs software and turned off/on at the mains
-
Turned HDMI CEC off and back on in the TV settings. Of note, the TV says it’s detecting the Apple device in this menu
-
Moving close to the TV and ensuring there is no block to the TV’s IR sensor
I’m out of ideas. Through all the above - regardless of whether I’m using IR or HDMI - I’ve never had the Apple remote control the TV power or volume once. It’s controlling the Apple system itself completely fine.
Also, it’s worth saying that throughout all this, I’ve been able to plug in my Google Chromecast TV and have it control the TV without any problem.
SOS
I saw on the bottom of your post you tried the TV remote...we just got a Hisense last week and I switched to using the TV remote. The only thing I truly miss is having the home button, and rarely but sometimes the Siri button, however my set up may be different. I have external speakers on the TV's that have an Apple TV and I have the audio set to go out optical on the one TV and eARC handles everything for the soundbar on the other.
So on your Hisense TV the Apple TV also won’t control the volume?
