Sony Interactive Entertainment sent a message via the PS5 and PS4's advisory systems mentioning that the consoles won't support X (formerly Twitter) integration anymore.

lol the PS4 and 5 had Twitter integration? Didn't even know that was a thing and I've been a Playstation user since the PS2 and currently rock a PS5.

Never tried hitting that share button in eight years?

Not the person you asked, but honestly it's the most useless button on the controller. I hit it by accident, and want the menu to go away quicker than it took to load in.

I haven't owned a PlayStation since the first one, there's a dedicated Twitter button on the controller?

No there’s a share button, it takes screenshots/videos and you can share them to certain platforms.

It even replaced the select button, which to be frank was also quite useless (but not as much).

Technically it didn't replace the select button. The touch pad replaced the select button.

It's the "share button". Apparently somewhere in there lets you post to a linked twitter account.

I definitely see its use. Suppose you don’t consider yourself a content creator, but you’re playing GTAV and some absolutely hilarious one-in-a-million glitch happens where a ragdoll flips in JUST the right way. It’s good to have a fast button to be able to mark the recording for later. Could be that video would get to a million views, but only if you’re able to record it.

I've saved a few clips for this reason and I'd rather just go to the PS5 quick menu and open up the share screen from there. I don't know why that wasn't the option to begin with, are people saving clips frequently enough to require its own button?

Weird design choice.

nope, it's a waste of a button. I hate that button with a passion.

Counterpoint: I really enjoy taking photos in games that have photo modes, and it’s a great button for that.

Nope, I'm pretty introverted and don't really have friends, lol

Doesn’t mean you can’t save some fun photos for later. They save to your console by default; you don’t have to share them at all.
