Shit man I am a top ten expert in an extremely niche area with my work cited thousands of times and I still feel like I don't know shit and will be in a state of constantly falling behind until I die.
That's because there are 9 smarter people than you and new comers are breathing on your neck.

Come on you must know your niche thing. I have confidence issues as well but stuff I have done who knows how many hundreds of times I know how to do.
I try to divide up the unknowns in any project. Knowing the exact point where my knowledge ends and begins again. If I know what I don't know I can still have confidence in that much.
Imposter syndrome can affect anyone, no matter how experienced or knowledgeable they are.
Those reminders are pretty poignant when they hit though.

Feels like it should be true... aside from the fact that subsequent studies suggest it is due to poor statistical analysis.
