So, I'm very confused! I've got 2 questions:

https://lemmy.world/c/kbinmeta@kbin.social works
https://lemmy.world/c/books@kbin.social works
but
https://lemmy.world/c/Amsterdam@kbin.social
doesn't!
(Here's the direct Kbin link: https://kbin.social/m/Amsterdam )

Why could that be? What settings would I need to change to make my magazine show up? Is the magazine not federated for some reason? Is it because it has a capital letter & kbin is case sensitive?

The main reason for asking - aside from showing up across the Fediverse - is that currently there are lots of clients out for Lemmy's API, and I want to use an app to browse Kbin/Lemmy, so that's why I'm signing in with Lemmy, but want to browse my Kbin 'Magazine'.

On a related note: can I add a moderator for a Kbin magazine if their user profile is from another (Kbin/Lemmy) server? It would really help!

I’ve just tried this and it works. If you click the spy glass at the top right and search for the full url https://kbin.social/m/Amsterdam. It may not look like it’s doing anything. Hit search again and then go back to the communities page and just search for Amsterdam. The community should now show. It possibly won’t show any content yet if you are the first person from your instance to subscribe to it.

Hey, this worked for me too - thanks! In regards to the last point with not showing any content, how does that work? It will begin to show content going forward because I (the only person from my instance) has now subscribed?

Yeah exactly. That community will now be federating with the instance you are on so all new content should start to show.

Perfect, thanks for the help! Still wrapping my head around the move to a federated setup

Thank you so much! That worked perfectly - I've done it now on a couple of Lemmy servers, so it'll show up there by default now.
Only Lemmy.ml didn't work, but that's ok!

Oddly enough that trick didn't work on Fedia.io (Kbin server), where books@kbin.social works....
Is there a similar trick for Kbin?

I’m not sure if there is an issue with kbin at the moment as I’ve experienced similar today. It’s being discussed on this post here https://lemmy.world/post/456733
