I enjoy the HD599 comfort probably more than any other headphone I've tried but I can agree that the sound is disappointing. Just bland imo
Yeah, I'm not sure what it was. I even tried EQ; I just couldn't get into them for some weird reason. For comfort, I think it hit a weird spot on my temple (or jaw; I can't remember) that was specific to the shape of them. Really bizarre/frustrating. They're very well designed otherwise, and lightweight. I think the build quality is better than the Sundaras (despite the HD599 being plastic).
God I wish Hifiman had better build quality. It's the only thing stopping me from buying some of their more expensive headphones.
Yeah, it's a little goofy having a $300+ metal pair of headphones that I baby because I'm worried they'll spontaneously disintegrate.
For what it's worth, I've had no issues so far, but they're rickety and the adjustment slider is really "grind"ey. I hang them by the metal to avoid stretching the strap (you can see in the picture). They're still really comfortable, and the earpads are holding up well for now. Fingers crossed...
