A battery/solar/wifi camera is cheap and easy to install. $150, is okay but not great. An NVR with four cameras starts around $600 for the hardware, plus the install costs - someone licensed to run Ethernet cable. I've got a battery solar unit, I'm looking to upgrade to synology cameras but it's not an urgent expense.
I guess the first question is wired or wifi.
Dude next door spent thousands on a proper wired system and 2 weeks later both his cars were stolen heh (shouldn't laugh could happen to anyone). Insurance he said still played very hardball on the claim even with footage.
I sort of gave up on thinking about it after that.
I suspect a well equipped thief will spot wifi cameras and jam those frequencies but I have no data to back this up, probably safe unless you have the world's largest diamond on display. :)
Wow that’s unlucky! I have no idea where to start, but probably battery wifi. Easier to install. Agree they’re a chance that any footage won’t make a difference, but at least there would be less of a chance of crooks getting away with it if there’s some kind of images. And perhaps it would be a deterrent if they are in visible locations.
