Speaking of politics, I wouldn't be surprised if Lemmy gets out of control during when the US election cycle ramps up. If anyone remembers Reddit during the 2016, it was full of bad actors abusing algorithms to get their content to the top. It eventually led to blocking and eventually banning subreddits. On top of that, vote manipulation is already happening and there don't seem to be any tools to detect it and stop it. A few days ago someone used multiple accounts to systematically downvotes my posts and comments. I suspect this will ramp up hard once people start getting political. If those accounts are spread out over multiple instances, I don't see how to stop it.

Really hoping that people smarter than me are working on the problem, because otherwise I fear Lemmy won't be usable come this time next year.
