Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

What are you quoting from? The post is just an image?

Manufacturers can put the CE mark on. It's completely on them to ensure they are compliant

ISO9001 will be way higher than the EU minimum anyway and I don't understand why they bothered with the UKCA when the BSI kitemark is still in use, and is an actual mark of quality rather than compliance with some law.

Yet more Tory mismanagement.

CE marking is a key indicator of a product’s compliance with EU legislation and enables the free movement of products within the European market. By affixing the CE marking on a product, a manufacturer is declaring, on his sole responsibility, conformity with all of the legal requirements to achieve CE marking and therefore ensuring validity for that product to be sold throughout the EEA, the 27 member states of the EU and European Free Trade Association countries - Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Turkey. This also applies to products made in third countries which are sold in the EEA and Turkey. However, not all products must bear the CE marking. Only those product categories subject to specific directives that provide for the CE marking are required to be CE marked.

Typical nonsense from them. Taking an edge case of a tiny minority of a subset of products that require certification i.e. medical devices sold worldwide that already conform to ISO standards that are way higher than the EU regs, and then saying that UK business are all affected.

I notice they don't actually say how many of the fewer than 10% of UK firms that export are affected.

But there's literally no benefit to anyone to inventing a whole new UK set of standards to replace the CE mark. It's just so a bunch of rabid Brexiteers can claim some benefit. The only "benefit" is that we might lose safety standards. There's nothing in Brexit for actual people.

Agreed, CE isn't about standards though. It's just a mark to say it complies with EU regulations. An item can still be of poor quality yet be compliant with all EU regs.

The UKCA nonsense to replicate this is just more proof of how inept the Tories are.

We already have actual standards like the BSI kitemark, it's a quality mark.
