The issue really isn't Trump. The issue is Trump's supporters.

It literally does not matter what Trump does or says. Truly. Their support is UNCONDITIONAL.

Trump is inarticulate. He has no policy platform. He has almost no accomplishments from his first term.

Then of course there is all the crime. He's been found in civil court to have raped a woman. He confessed to cheating a charity.

And now he stands accused of the most unAmerican crimes you can imagine: conspiracies against the US to steal classified documents, and to overthrow an election that he KNEW he lost.

Can we give Trump any credit for being a formidable candidate when literally nothing he does matters? Kill a baby? They'd just vilify the baby.

One of the few times he ever uttered the truth was when he said "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters."

His covid response killed hundreds of thousands of people.

His insurrection cost multiple lives.

What he's done is way worse than shooting someone in the street.

Every covid responses in the whole world killed hundred of thousands, even in China with draconian measures.

Some countries at least tried. Are you saying every other country took measures that caused higher death rates, infection rates, etc?

Trump was ANTI take measures. And thus more Republicans died because the cult hivemind was that none of that is helpful at best and actively harmful at worst. Even actively mocking how dorky masks look.

And please let us not forget that he suggested injecting bleach. I'm never letting this go and have to mention whenever relevant.

No, I'm not speaking in generalities. These were the findings of a highly respected medical journal. https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/feb/10/us-coronavirus-response-donald-trump-health-policy

He would love to claim credit for the COVID vaccines. But you and I know all he did was sign off on something others put in front of him.

[–] flossdaily@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I would give him some credit for operation Warp Speed, except for two things:

  1. The only part of the accelerated vaccine development that was actually supposed to be handled by the Trump was the distribution of vaccines. And as we know from the Biden administration, even when Trump was kicked out of office, they still didn't even have a PLAN for vaccine distributions!

  2. Trump undercut the entire vaccine effort by failing to promote the vaccine when it was done, and generally treating all of COVID-19 as a hoax. We could not achieve herd immunity because the MAGA base would not vaccine. Hundreds of thousands of deaths occurred as a direct result of Trump sending mixed messages about the vaccine, and legitimizing the notion that covid was a partisan issue.

Very true. Trump's supporters will defend anything he does.
