Whatever you want to call it, it's inherently dishonest to take credit for skills you don't have and achievements you didn't earn.

[–] TypicalHog@lemm.ee -4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

No one is arguing that it isn't dishonest. NO ONE.

I'm just arguing that cheating is a different thing than boosting/account sharing. I'm not even arguing which is worse. I sometimes wonder if people can even read. I just corrected the terminology and BAM 14 dislikes. SO dumb.

It is cheating. I'm not sure what this weird take is. He used means that are against the rules of play to become statistically better than other players and rise in the ranks. Boosting and account sharing are against the rules. it is cheating.

[–] TypicalHog@lemm.ee -4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Cheating would be if he used external software to modify the game state/gained knowledge about the game state he wasn't supposed to have.

[–] megopie@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Other things beyond that can also be cheating. That is one kind of cheating but other things can be cheating as well.

When I hear that someone cheated in a videogame I think about using external software. When I hear that someone boosted in a videogame I think about account sharing. Maybe that's just me, idk.

From my perspective, cheating would also include account sharing. Would they give me the title for eating the most hot dogs in 15 minutes if I let 10 of my friends help me?

It's irrelevant to the overall point and comes across as a defense of Musk by attacking an irrelevant piece of semantics.

For example if people are arguing about pineapple on pizza and you say "pineapple is food so it's ok on pizza" it's not addressing the actual arguments being made.

If you think I'm defending him for boosting and account sharing - you are simply wrong. I just want the facts to be correct. Maybe it's going over peoples heads cause I'm autistic (I think) or something idk.

[–] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ok, so you claim you think you are autistic. That's fair, reading posts can be as hard as being in a room with unfamiliar people who have inside jokes or use sarcasm alot.

So perhaps then you should listen to what everyone here is telling you: boosting and account sharing is a form of cheating, recognised by the platforms he runs those games on. Elon did that, denied he was doing it. And got caught.

Elon cheated.

No Elon didn't cheat by using the Konami code or downloading an aim not or mod or anything like that. He cheated by boosting and account sharing.

You are getting down votes for two reasons here: you are wrong (he did cheat, it's how that you seem worried about) and you are defending one of the shittiest people to currently exist on the planet.

Those are the facts. Hope that helps.

[–] TypicalHog@lemm.ee 1 points 4 hours ago

How am I defending him lol?

[–] nandeEbisu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Regardless of your intent, the context in which you make a statement matters. You were wondering why people were down voting you so I'm just letting you know. You don't have to like it but that's the way it is.

I get being frustrated at people misunderstanding you, happens to everyone, just don't stress over the imaginary Internet points.
