It occurred to me that, as an adult, I feel I need a reason to invite friends over. My wife thinks this is pitiful. I invited a couple of friends over for a curry and a boardgame night - it was a fine evening - but without that reason of having a shared activity, I'd never have done it.

Jusy wondered if I'm alone in this, and if there's any men out there who DO invite male friends over with no plans or expectations for the evening?

Pic unrelated.

I call them up to just hang out, just like I did 20+ years ago. Virtually unchanged. Having a reason always adds the pressure of needing to be prepared for whatever. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to do jack shit, but still want company. Luckily my friends all aged very gracefully, so we all have plenty of time next to work and family commitments in our 40s.

I'm jealous... I'm no longer even contact with any of my school-friends, bar one who lives abroad. There's an occasional reunion when we all travel to London for drinks and dinner, but that's it

They are not necessarily the same people, I just maintained the general approach to contacting new folks just like I did back in school, and so far it's working out nicely.
