Noone said it was. The GAME is free for members of Amazon prime

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you have to pay money to get something for free that isn't exactly free, right? Think about it.

[–] sneakyninjapants@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You have to pay for electricity and a computer to play the games right, then I guess no games are free if you take it to its logical conclusion.

There are tiers of being free, this game just happens to be on a less-free tier than you think is appropriate for "free". Someone else may argue a game is not free unless it can be downloaded openly on the internet without an account. Your idea of free is no more or less valid than mine

The "tiers of free" thing is exactly what I was thinking, I've done a little write up at the bottom of the new sticky post which covers this very point!

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io -4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That makes it not a free game. It's like saying games on Gamepass are free.

We've had this conversation already, please stop hassling people about it

Clarifying a simple fact isn't harassment.

No, it isn't. This community is about opportunities for free games that you then own indefinitely.

If you don't like the purpose of the community, don't participate in it.

It's not a free game if I have to pay for it.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

If you're paying for prime just for the games you're doing it wrong

[–] smeg 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

and critically you can get a free trial of prime, claim all the games, then cancel it

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Once. We've had this conversation already. Please stop spreading disinformation.

What makes you think you can only do it once? As far as I know all they check is a unique email, so you can just create a new account if you want to do it again later.

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Because stores typically want your payment methods first, before they let you subscribe or purchase anything, even for "free trials".

According to this article (from 2020) a unique card is not required:

An Amazon customer service rep confirmed to us that a new email is all you need to qualify for the promotional period.

We don't really use credit cards where I live.

[–] smeg 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Me neither, I think American companies just say "credit card" when they mean any payment card

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah but my bank card is still unique and tied to me as a person and my address. I can't really get something anonymous for free like some temporary email provider throwing me a new inbox. We can't even get anonymous prepaid phone SIMs anymore. It's all a contract.

I don't pay for Prime.
