Feature focussing on the Simple Series of games by Simple Series for the Nintendo DS.
Taken from NGamer 33 - March 2009 (UK)

I know this series very well from the tons of games that were released under this label on PSone and PS2 in Japan, but I completely forgot that it extended to the DS.

This issue can be found in full here:

Just looked up a bit of gameplay and from the multiple choices on screen in a certain section, it seems that the dog is actually a cyborg. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Games don't always need to be "good" to be fun, at least that's how I feel about it.

Looks to be a visual novel with some light puzzle elements.

I feel like I am being threatened with a good time...

I'll have to have a bit of a fish around. See if i can find a translation patch. Sadly, DS games are a pain in the butt for emulation, mostly because of that damn Dual Screen thing.

The amount of games released in Japan on DS that never got a western release is quite something.
While not specifically to the DS, but that's one of the reasons why I'd love to be fluent in Japanese...
Never really gonna happen as I'm most likely too old for that, and I don't have enough time to dedicate towards studying.

It's coming along in bits and pieces and at times, I'm surprised at the things I'm able to pick up, but yeah, I don't want to set unrealistic expectations.

I am very out of practice with my Japanese. Though I recently found my Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar, which is a fantastic but chunky, yellow book that really helped me during my university course.

That being said, grammar was never my problem. Vocabulary was always the hardest thing for me.

Speaking of dictionaries, that gave a flashback to the Touch Dic and Hand Dic software on Nintendo DS and PSP respectively.

I wonder if the game actually really released as Touch Dic in the end or if there's is only the version that says Touch Dictionary as I can't seem to find an actual copy anywhere.

PSP "game" called Hand DIC This is a digital dictionary in English, Korean and Japanese if I'm not mistaken.

Ignoring those names for a second...

The DS was the perfect device to have an array of tools, like dictionaries developed for it. I had an electronic dictionary when I was abroad, and it was just an amazing device that cost me a small fortune...

I still have it somewhere, but today, I tend to go to Jisho.org whenever I need to translate the odd word

Oh absolutely.
On the Patreon only podcast of Retronauts this past weekend about the DS, they actually went into this, how the DS was so much better equipped to handle that kind of software compared to the PSP.

The touchscreen, as well as being able to use the system in vertical mode with the two screens next to each other like a little book.

Developers really were able to do a ton of original stuff with it.
