This effect is relatively a very simple one to edit in post and would look a lot better than contacts. This looks so cheap

I just had a mini-revelation that this looks weird because the "pupil" is on the surface of the contact instead of under the lens of the eye. These aren't bad contacts; contacts are just bad like that. Seems that post processing is really the only option.

Yes colored contacts have that effect always, but for a show you'd expect some effort into one of the main characters appearance

Especially for emotional acting scenes. Sure use contacts for fight choreography so you don't have to retouch every frame where he's facing the camera but for the close ups?
