For that money you could travel DB highspeed trains for twenty years, or ten years first class

Sure could. Unfortunately, those trains don’t run between my home and work, or grocery store, or doctor and hospital, or movie, or the mountains for skiing/camping, or any other amenities where I live. I wish I had great public transit options like in Europe, but I don’t.
You can't even get 5 miles to the south, West, or Northwest without a car where I live. Blocked off highways and no sidewalks everywhere!
Oh the prices I talked about are long distance travel, public transit is 600€ per year
