Fediverse vs Disinformation

420 readers
52 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

I appreciate the good work done in this Lemmy.

The part of this that I find hardest to believe is that it has taken this long, and only come back at him ~~twice~~ thrice.

"Someone is stirred to violence by the loud angry man who constantly spews loud angry rhetoric" is a relatively easy prediction.

There was at least one I know of in 2016, a 20 year old British guy in Vegas tried to grab a cop’s gun at a rally. He was in prison for a year and then got sent back to the UK
