Likely the friendly fire that costed them an expert pilot and an F16
Yeah - I just came across that article. That’s a pretty serious fuckup, considering both of the systems are supposed to have IFF systems that absolutely can talk to each other.
FF has not been given as a cause for the crash AFAIK. Source?
I am unaware of a source, but this has been the rumor running around about why they have been talking about the loss with the specific language they have been.
Well the fact Ukranians have been flooded with everything air defense, ranging from cold war relics all the way up to the bees knees in modern tech. They have to get everything working seamlessly and this is a daunting task on a good day. So it at least is a reasonable suspicion. And the fact there is even a question on if it is friendly fire means the Ukrainian air defense has to up their game even more. Let's hope for the best going forward under new leadership.
My local radio station claimed that a Parliament member of Ukraine gave friendly fire as a reason.
It's not confirmed by any military source yet though.
