lemmy.world has a favicon but it seems that currently it's too large

Same, as honestly most people should. Well, that or a good fork.
You can check the Network tab in the Developer Tools, this is the image I'm getting served as favicon:

If something is bloking it it should say it in the Transferred column. I had to tweak some addons to make it work.
I see it there, in transferred, it shows service worker. Everything appears to be working. If I may, what did you have to tweak to make it work because I do have a lot of extensions and userscripts running.
If it says transferred... then I'm not sure what to do :/. You can try removing all cookies, storage and such for the site.
I don't remember exactly, but it was probably related to the usual suspects (in my case): uMatrix, uBlock Origin and Request Control.
I'm the person who reported that. As a temporary workaround I'm using the Favicon Switcher extension (with a smaller file). You have to do it per Firefox instance; the settings aren't synced.
