Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

WSJ this morning. The last bit is a stunning self own after Cannon flushed the last remaining parts of the justice system down the toilet today.

"Leaders on both sides need to stop describing the stakes of the election in apocalyptic terms. Democracy won't end if one or the other candidate is elected. Fascism is not aborning if Mr. Trump wins, unless you have little faith in American institutions."

[–] ashok36@lemmy.world 31 points 4 months ago (2 children)

People are picking sides. If you believe trump will win, and you're a coward, and you know that he will go on a reign of terror after inauguration then it makes sense to get in line as soon as possible. Last in line are first against the wall after all. And there will be people against the wall. Mark my words.

Pelosi, Obama, Biden and his family, shumer, aoc, and Cohen will be arrested for treason within weeks and executed. I know it sounds crazy but... ::gestures vaguely at everything::

[–] Telorand@reddthat.com 14 points 4 months ago

Doesn't even need a reason. He just has to "gesture vaguely," to borrow your turn of phrase, at Official Acts™. He's already got a hitlist, so he just needs the levers of power to cross off names with impunity.

The only one on your list that I would take up arms to defend is AOC. And she's been pushing it lately.

The Democrat party has had an influx of never Trump centrists and even milquetoast conservatives. The dems will be moving right ward to accommodate those new pick ups until the Maga crowd fizzles out and conservatives go back to the GOP.

Or we have a complete realignment and the parties flip. It's happened before.

[–] Wes4Humanity@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

If that's true then they should, not exactly flip, but the Dems should embrace themselves as being the "this is how far RIGHT you're allowed to go before you're a crazy person" party... Instead of what they are now which is the same but for the left. Completely ignore maga and they'll die out one way or another, and start working with a more serious left and whatever the far left shapes up to be. Yeah the more serious left will take some of their more progressive members, but they'll stay competitive with the Republicans joining them... You know, until the boomers are all gone. Then we'll be rid of both of these monstrosities, and replaced with basically whatever parties the millennials and younger generations build. Maybe even an entire election system. Sorry daydreaming there at the end.

Gen x can come too if they want, I guess

[–] Marleyinoc@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

Well, we have a lot less faith today thanks to Eileen Cannon and the majority of the rigged SCOTUS.

Considering how much Team Trump has dismantled already, it is very rational to think these thoughts.
