Because the global south in various ways are becoming emerging powers that deserve that respect and acknowledgment. “Third world” has a lot of negative connotations associated with it also. At best it depicts them as an other that doesn’t matter and at worst it’s kinda racist. That’s just my thoughts on it.

And China still calls itself moderately prosperous. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to have a better analysis of the situation at hand. I gave my reasoning as to why I think it shouldn’t be used, I’m not an authority or anything, but I think it’s outdated.
