How about a 1% tax for every 100lbs the vehicle weighs.

That would be good, but it should rampup exponentally the heavier the vehicle is. So say a 3000lb vehicle is 50% tax, a 6000lb vehicle should be MUCH higher, maybe 500% or so. Make it really worth while to reduce weight, which is of course the number one issue for the safety of people outside of the car.

I agree. Cars should be taxed by weight. The heavier the vehicle the more wear and tear it causes to the infrastructure, and also the deadlier it is in a collusion.

But add an exception for EVs since they're heavier. We need cheaper EVs, not more expensive ones.

Absolutely, but EVs still would be affected disproportionately since the battery weighs a lot.

They could get a bonus or a factor. But I wouldn’t completely exempt them.
