Random Old Memes and ✨Stuff✨

Got sick of bigots, and pedants, and trying to figure out if something is “meme enough” to count, and of feeling like I’m spamming other spaces, and very quickly of the lemmy UI too (still love you blahaj.zone!) so am opening my own space where I can make my own rules and post my collection in peace. ❗BE WARNED: SOME OF THE IMAGES YOU SEE HERE MAY NOT TECHNICALLY BE MEMES❗ Now that we got that out of the way, let the infodump commence! Expect a mix of slightly outdated: mostly leftist (but never tankie) content, many cats, and some general old memes I’ve collected over the years. There are many, so will try to mix it up! Update: looks like 🐝Beehaw🐝 have banned this magazine. If you want real leftism rather than "nice" (more like "unchallenging to the status quo and the comfort of libs") leftism, I guess you'll have to follow from elsewhere!

tweet by The Wokest Bae @splendidrainco:

White people are always screaming about how we want to live in an "echochamber" because we won't hear out people who disagree with us like yes Karen, I want to scream into the void that black people deserve to live unbothered and that's the only sentiment I want to hear in return

-end image description-

So turns out there is an ongoing bug on the fediverse where moderation doesn't federate properly, meaning that some removed comments stay up and active, and some banned users remain not-banned and free to continue interacting on their own instances that aren't federating (so out of my sight and control), mainly lemmy.world.

This is a problem, especially for a space like this which I intended to be safe and free of the bigoted/bad faith/reactionary noise that exists everywhere else, where we validate each others existences and experiences instead of having to justify and defend them.

Moderating already takes more time and mental focus than I was expecting, and if it actually was effective I really wouldn't mind, but it obviously isn't, and I don't like wasting those on a futile task.

So for now, and until this is hopefully fixed, I will be taking a big step back. I probably will still post once in a while just to keep the magazine alive, but nothing that would require any heavy modding (which excludes a lot of what I have to share lol), but rest assured, if and when the bug is fixed, I will be back in full force!

Thanks everyone for your support so far, I hope you stick around to wait this out. 💙

"Medicare For All? No thanks, I don't want to pay for other people's health care. I like private insurance, where I pay for other people's health care AND for the salaries of bloodsucking middlemen whose entire purpose is telling me No when I need medicine"

post by Kayla O'Brian:
If you can't afford to pay a living wage, you can't afford to be in business. Asking people to work below poverty wages so you can own a business is entitlement at it's finest.
You are asking human beings to use their lives to subsidize your desire to own a business.
If a job is worth being done, it's worth being paid enough to live..

On the ground in front of it is a smashed pumpkin, in one of the creature's stick hands is a "skull" of the smashed pumpkin, carved out of the white layer of skin, in the other stick hand are some pumpkin innards hanging off

post by Afrofuturist Abolitionists of the Americas:
"When you quit using ableist language to describe politicians etc your critiques of them automatically become more accurate and useful."

-end image description-

If you have a knee jerk reaction to defend yourself and/or the use of ableist language, don't.

Educate yourself instead.

Conflating harmful actions with lack of intelligence does everyone a disservice. To suggest that “stupidity” that is what makes people act badly undermines any real accountability. The causes of problematic behavior rarely have anything to do with mental acuity, and we can’t properly address harmful behavior while being so reductive about its causes. Carelessness, bias, hatred, greed, closed-mindedness, indifference – these are the traits that lead to oppression. Our intelligence is not the issue so much as our sense of compassion and justice.
A person can be "unintelligent" and still know right from wrong. There are people with cognitive disabilities who I respect a thousand times more than those who are supposedly more abled. They have stronger principles, seek to better themselves, and are committed to being good people. They are just capable of being sensitive and caring as everyone else. To imply that they aren’t is outrageous.

drawing of a swarm of black bats with red eyes flying over a field, the sky is only dimly lit with an orange hue. At the forefront, one bat has ended up lower down, closer to the wheat growing bellow, around the bat 3 black cats have pounced up from all different directions, we see them mid air, claws out, about to catch the bat.

Conservatives: I hate Muslim people. Look at what that Muslim person did at that Orlando LGBT bar.

LGBT people: So, does that mean you care about LGBT people?

Conservatives: No! Gay people are pedophiles, and transgender women are just men who want to invade women's restrooms and harass women! WE NEED TO PROTECT WOMEN!

Women: So, does that mean you care about women?

Conservatives: Shut up, feminazi! Women in the United States are not oppressed! If you want to talk about women's oppression, you should be focusing on how women in other countries are treated!

Refugees: So, does that mean you care about people from other countries?

Conservatives: Stay out of our country! Why should we care about refugees when we have people here who need help?

Homeless People: So, does that mean you care about people who need help?

Conservatives: No! Get a job, freeloader!

post by batteredshoes:

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are cor- roded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.- James 5:1-6

post by redmensch:
holy shit i just learned about the "proxy strike" tactic in france in which radicals blockade or occupy a workplace, allowing workers to strike without losing their wages. that's brilliant, wow

jewishtransdyke replies:
How does that work, exactly?

redmensch replies:
if you and your coworkers say "we're striking" and occupy your workplace, your boss won't pay you, but if your friends and your coworkers' friends occupy it for you, you say "sorry boss shit's occupied" and you still get paid because you're not the ones striking

redmensch replies again:
the 5,528 people who have reblogged this post as of right now could probably
paralyze a decent chunk of a city's economy using this tactic Imao

infographic titled "What class are you a member of?"

sub title: "Lower class? Middle class? Upper class?"

in a central box, text: "The truth is, your class has nothing to do with your level of personal income, but everything to do with your relationship to the means of production. Under capitalism there are only two broad categories of social class: the capitalist class and the working class."

bellow, on the left a box with text:
"The Capitalist Class
The capitalist class are people who are private owners of the means of production. The means of production are anything used in the process of production, including our workplaces, factories, tools, machinery, land, infrastructure, natural resources, and so on. By simply owning the means of production, these private owners are allowed to take for themselves the products and wealth created by the labor of the working class."

on the right a box with text:
"The Working Class
The working class are people are are not owners of the means of production. Because they don't have any ownership of the means of production, these workers have no choice but to sell their time and labor, the very substance of their lives, to members of the capitalist class in exchange for wages which equal less than the full value of their work."

bellow in another central box, text: "The capitalist class, and the working class. Exploiters and exploited. Which are you?"
