Hi everyone! I'm very pleased to announce Massif's next standalone game set in the Lancer universe, named Far Field

Far Field is a game about teams of civilian scientists and explorers venturing out to the edges of known space - exploring the harsh, weird, and beautiful worlds of the galactic frontier. Out in the black, you and your fellow explorers will discover strange alien fauna and flora, contact diasporan peoples long-disconnected from Union, and encounter unexplained mysteries at the edges of human comprehension.

Far Field is built on the Wild Words Engine, the FITD-descended system powering games like Wildsea. The system incentivises players to come up with creative, character-focused solutions to tackle the hazards and challenges of nonlinear, exploration-focused gameplay. Gameplay is mission-based and episodic, with support for creating ongoing campaigns.

The Pilot NET mods have very kindly created some new channels for us to use - #far-field-general to discuss the game more generally, and #far-field-gm-hub for GM-focused discussion. For lore questions I will try to be active in #lore-and-worldbuilding (feel free to ping me); if/when you have feedback please post it in new-release-feedback-forum!

The latest public playtest version of Far Field is pinned in the Far Field channels - go take a look, and let us know what you think!

FAQ

What is Far Field?
Far Field is a game about explorers and scientists venturing into the unknown and exploring the harsh, weird, beautiful worlds of the galactic frontier. Set in the Lancer universe, players are members of a Far-Field Team: a group sent by the Union Science Bureau to catalog the fringes of space, discover strange new worlds, and recontact lost peoples. Far Field uses the Wild Words Engine that powers Wildsea amongst other games - a system with Forged in the Dark heritage designed to facilitate exploration and player creativity.

Who's publishing this, and when will it be released?
Far Field is published by Massif Press. It currently does not have a set release date, and is currently available in public playtest.

What is the current state of the game?
The game is currently in rough draft form and requires playtesting. It is incomplete, and subject to change based on playtest feedback. We anticipate including a large amount of extra compendium content in the final release, including extra aspects for PCs, and lists of sample locations and hazards for GMs.

Where can I download it?
Check the pins of this channel (#far-field-general pilot NET discord) for the latest version of the Player's Guide. Check the pins of #far-field-gm-hub for the latest version of the GM Guide.

How do I provide feedback?
Please create a thread in #new-release-feedback-forum, using the Far Field tag! All feedback is appreciated, but the more detail you can provide, the better.
